Prague, Czech Republic

We left for Prague bright and early in the morning. Even though bedtime was rather late the night before, the bus was rocking with techno from the get-go – the students were more than ready for another adventurous day on the European highways and to experience the second country on the tour!

First break was at a Czech mall where we got the first taste of Eastern European cuisine: Different types of indistinguishable meat – tasting mostly of salt - along with coleslaw. At least it was cheap.
Next stop was the Thereisenstadt concentration camp, located within an old WW1 castle. The beautiful castle was the setting for some of WW2’s worst crimes and countless Jews lost their lives behind the thick castle walls, and the students got a good feel for the unbelievable horrors of the Holocaust.

Everybody listened carefully to the guide
Up to 90 people would sleep on these beds

The showers. These were regular showers and not the posionous gas-type as was found in, for instance, Auschwitz

Flowers placed at the place where Jews were shot dead

Being a guide can be exhausting

Back on the bus we headed for the Czech capital: Prague.
After very nice 3-course dinner at the hotel the rest of the evening was spent sightseeing around downtown Prague.
